What did the Egyptians use instead of pillows?
Amenophis III

Ask Amenophis:
  What did Egyptians drink?
In which part of Egypt did papyrus grow?
  What did Egyptians eat?

The Egyptians slept on hard "headrests". These usually had a flat bottom to lay on the bed and a curved top to cradle the neck. Even though we call them "headrests", they were actually "neck-rests". Although they look amazingly uncomfortable, they are really very pleasant if you sleep on your back. You can try one yourself: make your own neck-rest by rolling up a towel or a thin pillow and placing it under your neck.
